We have a large French-speaking community at Grinling Gibbons: this is why we have chosen to teach it as part of our Modern Foreign Language curriculum.
In line with current national curriculum expectations, all classes in KS2 take part in a weekly French session.  By participating in a range of speaking and listening activities, and by role-playing conversations, children are able to develop their linguistic skills in a fun and practical way. These skills are developed using the Rigolo platform, which provides visual and audio experiences to support the children’s spoken and written language.

Extra-curricular French in KS1

We are fortunate to have a fluent French-speaking member of staff who regularly shares her expertise with staff and children.  French is also offered as an extra-curricular activity after school, giving children in KS1 the opportunity to get a head start, and begin learning the language in preparation for KS2.
