Welcome back to a brand-new school year! It’s been a joy to see all the children’s smiling faces as they’ve settled into Year 1 and embraced the first week. They are still adapting to their new classroom and the changes in Year 1, with new routines, expectations and the exciting role of no longer being the youngest in the school. Year 1 is special, full of learning and opportunities to grow in confidence; children gradually gain independence and strive to become a better version of themselves. We encourage you to check ClassDojo regularly for updates, important reminders, and snapshots of your child’s learning journey in Year 1. If you have any questions or would like to get in touch with a member of the Year 1 team, please don’t hesitate to send us a message through ClassDojo-we are always happy to help and will respond as promptly as possible.
Weekly home learning will include regular reading, Maths and English CGP book activities, spelling practice and engaging online learning. These activities will help children consolidate their learning in school, build confidence and develop the skills they need to make continued progress.
Mathletics: Maths home learning will be set on Mathletics, www.mathletics.co.uk, every week.
Reading: Your child will bring home a reading book to enjoy and discuss with you. To support their progress, we suggest they read for at least 15 minutes each day. Regular reading helps build confidence, fluency, and a love of books. Please encourage your child to change their book regularly to keep them engaged and challenged. Don’t forget to sign and comment in their Reading Log after each shared reading session – your feedback is a valuable part of their learning journey.
PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday on these days, all children need to wear their PE kit to school.
Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure that all clothes, including bags, have your child’s name on it.
