A very warm welcome to all our Year 5 families as we begin an exciting new school year. It has been really lovely to welcome your children back, and we are all looking forward to an excellent term of learning, creativity and new experiences. We are excited to see the children grow in confidence, develop their skills and enjoy everything Year 5 has to offer.
I look forward to updating everyone on their fantastic progress via Class Dojo and through words of praise in the playground.
Weekly home learning will include regular reading, Maths and English CGP book activities, spelling practice and engaging online learning. These activities will help children consolidate their learning in school, build confidence and develop the skills they need to make continued progress.
Mathletics: Maths home learning will be set on Mathletics, www.mathletics.co.uk, every week.
Reading: Your child will bring home a reading book to enjoy and discuss with you. To support their progress, we suggest they read for at least 15 minutes each day. Regular reading helps build confidence, fluency, and a love of books. Please encourage your child to change their book regularly to keep them engaged and challenged. Don’t forget to sign and comment in their Reading Log after each shared reading session — your feedback is a valuable part of their learning journey.
Spelling: Spellings will be shared every Friday, and children will be tested on or before the following Thursday. Please take some time to practise the spellings with your child throughout the week to help build their confidence and accuracy.
Maths/English/Science: Your child will also be given a piece of homework based on maths, English and/or science. Occasionally, they may be asked to research something we are learning or going to learn in class.
PE will take place on Tuesday and Friday on these days, all children need to wear their PE kit to school.
Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure that all clothes, including bags, have your child’s name on it.
Year 5 will also have 10 swimming lessons over a two-week period.
From the 9th November to the 20th November: the class will walk to Wavelengths every day for a swimming lesson. All children will need to bring a swimming kit and a towel to school every day, for two weeks.
