Year 2

Welcome back!

Welcome to the start of another school year. It has been really lovely to welcome your children back, and we are all looking forward to a fabulous term of learning. As you know, Year 2 is a very important year, as we have the KS1 SATs coming up in May. We will be working hard to make sure that your child is ready for these, but we cannot do this without your help. Thank you in advance for all your support – it is always greatly appreciated.

What we will be learning this term

• Literacy: The Goldilocks project and Jim and Beanstalk
• Maths: Number – place value, addition and subtraction
• Computing: We are astronauts
• Science: Animals including humans
• RE: ‘The Natural World. How did the World Begin?’
• History: ‘Homes over time’
• Art & DT: Construction-Homes using different materials
• PSHE: Relationships 
• Making friends: feeling lonely and getting help 
• Managing secrets: resisting pressure and getting help; recognising hurtful behaviour 
• PE: Run, Jump, Throw and Dance
• Music: ‘Focus on Orchestral Instruments: Listening to Traditional Western stories (Fairy tales) focusing on timbre, pitch and tempo.

PE days

Year 2 have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On these days, children need to come to school wearing their school uniforms, with their PE kits and trainers in a bag.

PE uniform

Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, with a white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure that all kits have your child’s name on them.
