Welcome back to a brand-new school year! It’s been a joy to see all the children’s smiling faces as they’ve settled into the first week. We’re excited for the autumn term ahead and hope they are too! The children have made a fantastic start in their new class, and we’re proud of how quickly they’ve adapted. We have a range of exciting plans lined up for this term and are looking forward to working closely with you to support your child’s learning and development. To stay updated on Year 2 news and to contact your teacher, please remember to check ClassDojo regularly. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to send a message. We will respond as soon as we can.
Year 2 Team:
Weekly home learning will include regular reading, Maths and English CGP book activities, spelling practice and engaging online learning. These activities will help children consolidate their learning in school, build confidence and develop the skills they need to make continued progress.
Mathletics: Maths home learning will be set on Mathletics, www.mathletics.co.uk, every week.
Reading: Your child will bring home a reading book to enjoy and discuss with you. To support their progress, we suggest they read for at least 15 minutes each day. Regular reading helps build confidence, fluency, and a love of books. Please encourage your child to change their book regularly to keep them engaged and challenged. Don’t forget to sign and comment in their Reading Log after each shared reading session – your feedback is a valuable part of their learning journey.
Spelling: Spellings will be sent home every Friday, and children will be tested on or before the following Thursday. Please take some time to practise the spellings with your child throughout the week to help build their confidence and accuracy.
Maths/English/Science: Your child will also be given a piece of homework based on maths, English and/or science. Occasionally, they may be asked to research something we are learning or going to learn in class.
PE will take place on Tuesday and Thursday on these days, all children need to wear their PE kit to school.
Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a plain white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure that all clothes, including bags, have your child’s name on it.
