Year 4 

Welcome back!

Welcome to Year 4!

What a brilliant start to the year! It’s been wonderful seeing the children settle into Year 4 with such enthusiasm and big smiles. They’ve already shown great curiosity and confidence, and we’re excited for all the fun learning ahead. From new topics to exciting challenges, this term is full of adventure. What we will be learning this term

• English texts: Constance in Peril, Tales from India, Make Yourself at Home
• Maths: Place value, addition, subtraction, area, multiplication and division
• Computing: Computing systems, and networks and creating media
• Science: Animals including Humans – teeth and digestion, and Sound
• RE: Judaism
• History/Geography: Windrush Generation and Arctic Tundra and climate zones
• Art & DT: Story Telling Through Drawing
• PSHE: Relationships
• PE: Football, dance and swimming
• Music: Steel Pans

Home Learning

Weekly home learning will include regular reading, Maths and English CGP book activities, spelling practice and engaging online learning. These activities will help children consolidate their learning in school, build confidence and develop the skills they need to make continued progress.

Mathletics: Maths home learning will be set on Mathletics, www.mathletics.co.uk, every week.

Reading: Your child will bring home a reading book to enjoy and discuss with you. To support their progress, we suggest they read for at least 15 minutes each day. Regular reading helps build confidence, fluency, and a love of books. Please encourage your child to change their book regularly to keep them engaged and challenged. Don’t forget to sign and comment in their Reading Log after each shared reading session – your feedback is a valuable part of their learning journey.

Spelling: Spellings will be sent home every Friday, and children will be tested on or before the following Thursday. Please take some time to practise the spellings with your child throughout the week to help build their confidence and accuracy.

Maths/English/Science: Your child will also be given a piece of homework based on maths, English and/or science. Occasionally, they may be asked to research something we are learning or going to learn in class.

PE days

PE will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. On these days, all children need to wear their PE kit to school.

PE uniform

Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a plain white T-shirt, plimsolls, or black trainers. All clothing and bags must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
