Year 5 

Welcome back!

Welcome to the start of a new school year. It has been really lovely to welcome your children back and we are all looking forward to an excellent term of learning!

Year 5 Team

What we will be learning this term

• English: The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein + Robot Girl by Malorie Blackman – newspaper articles, persuasive speech and biography.
• Maths: Number, place value, addition and subtraction
• Computing: Game development
• Science: Animals including humans
• RE: Christianity: Jesus human and divine
• History: Viking raids and invasion
• Geography: Comparative city study – London, Paris, Madrid
• Art & DT: Movement maps, Drawing maps, study of Shantell Martin
• PSHE: Managing friendships and peer influence, Physical contact and feeling safe, Responding respecting to a wide range of people; recognising prejudice and discrimination
• PE: Netball and Gymnastics
• Music: Blues: Singing the Moanin’ Blues and improvising with pitched percussion, focusing on pitch

PE days

Year 5 have PE on Tuesdays and Thursday. On these days children need to come to school wearing their school uniforms and have their PE kits and trainers in their PE bag.

PE uniform

Blue or black shorts or tracksuit bottoms, with a white T-shirt and plimsolls or black trainers. Please ensure that all kit has your child’s name on it.

Year 5 will also have 10 swimming lessons over a two-week period.

From the 26th September to the 7th October: the class will walk to Wavelengths every day for a swimming lesson. All children will need to bring a swimming kit and a towel to school every day, for two weeks.
